Who I Am
My name is Cody McBroom, I am a 20 year old college student, fitness enthusiast, and a certified personal trainer/strength coach at Vigor Ground Fitness & Performance in Renton, WA. My life is all about fitness and I am extremely passionate about helping others acheive their health, fitness, and lifestyle goals. Fitness has changed my life in an amazing way and turned me into a much happier and more positive person. Here's my story, I've played select club level soccer since I was a child and varsity soccer early in my high school years. My junior year I tore my MCL in a soccer game and it ended my season. Next year came and I was pumped up and ready to go play. During a pre-season practice game I partially tore my ACL. This was a huge blow to me because once again I was out for the season, but not just any season, it was my senior year and I was supposed to be captain. So what did I do? I got really out of shape and gained some weight because with no soccer there was no excerise or need to workout. This carried on until half way through my first year at community college. I was attending Highline Community College in Des Moines, WA and studying business. A friend of mine talked me into getting a gym membership so he could have a lifting partner. I new something needed to change about my health and life so I decided to get a membership, which was at a "big box" gym.
I had my first client consultation with a female trainer who was in great shape. She did my measurements and body fat percent and then told me the results. Not only were the results bad but she made them seem bad and really made it awkward. So in other words she did a horrible consultation, but it somehow embarrassed me into huge motivation. This is what initially made me get in shape. The pounds started shedding off and after a while I decided to research and try to rehabilitate my own knee through training. This got me so interested I decided to try and become a personal trainer so I could make a career out helping get their own personal results. I googled personal trainer schools to see what I could find and it turned out that the college I was currently going to offered a personal trainer program. So I thought about it and then ended up switching my major by the end of spring quarter.
I started the program and my first class was called functional training, which is all based on Gray Cook's Functional Movement Screen and the mobility stability continuum. So the teacher walks in and its just an average grey haired middle aged man, his name is Tim Vagen. So me being me I went home and googled him and realized that this dude is the shit. Not only has he trained everyone from NFL athletes to olympic medalist swimmers but he has taking people who are comletely paralized and gave them the ablility to walk and move again. I knew at that point that I needed to put myself around him as much as possible. He has been the teacher for most of my classes but also a mentor to me ever since I started the program. I now am finishing up my college degree in Personal Fitness/Health and working at an elite level private training facility called Vigor Ground Fitness & Performance under one of the top trainers in the world, Luka Hocevar. My teacher Tim Vagen understood what I wanted to achieve in the fitness industry and told me I must go see this man named Luka. After a long summer of interning and learning from Luka, he hired me and I am now one of his trainers. To me this is the beginning of my dream which he is helping me make a reality.
